Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center

Dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Costa Rican wildlife.

The Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center is a non-profit organization that gives animals a second chance at life. Our dedicated staff and selfless volunteers work tirelessly to help these animals heal, keep them safe, rehabilitate them, and eventually re-release them into their natural habitat in the Costa Rican rainforest.

They really make a difference!

''The Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center is the perfect place for animal and nature lovers. The facilities are basic and quite open so perfect for a "real jungle" experience, also you don´t have to be afraid of poisining animals, I did not saw any during my stay.

The work with the animals is so rewarding and was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity! I never got so close to wildlife. I learned a lot, not only from each species but in addition about the still existing problems of animals abusement (especially in the tourism sector!) and illegal pet trade. This really changed my view and attitude during my further travels in central america. Furthermore I had the honor to experience the releases of two rehabilitated two-toed sloths and one Tucan back into the wild. I will never forget the feeling I had, watching these little creatures experience their new freedom.

The people at the Rescue Center, the owner (Bernal and Marielos) as well as the coordinator (Sarita) and other workers are very kind, helpful and big hearted. As you work with animals, you might should not bring the fanciest clothes and be prepared to get a little dirty. During rainy season a light rainjacket and rubber boots are suggested. Volunteering means work for at least a few hours a day, don´t expect a luxuary vacation rather than cold showers, shared bathrooms and tipical local food.

To sum up: if you are looking forward to an authentic Costa Rican experience, are open minded and passionated about animal rescue and wildlife conservation, this place is PERFECT for you!

In fact I highly recommend this place for people who want to be more than a tourist and make a difference! ''

CRARC Fundraising page is up and running!

Hello all!

Thank you all for you support recently, both digitally and economically, and our Spider Monkey enclosure is near completion!

We know many of our amazing volunteers and many more of you want to be able to fundraise and donate to the center- so we wanted to make it as easy for you as possible to do so!
We have made a whole page dedicated just to just Fundraising and it is filled with tips and ideas and past successes of previous volunteers, and even offers guidance and help how to start fundraising.

Recent examples of excellent fundraisers are Chase from our previous blog entry, a group of teenage girls from Country Day School in Alajuela Costa Rica who organized a bottle flip challenge on Fair Day at their school, and Jennifer Leach who is a volunteer who visited us in the summer of 2016 who now runs a beautiful childrens clothing shop online to help raise money for the center called Little Bear Wardrobe

It is thanks to amazing volunteers such as these that we are able to keep going as a rescue center!
Thank you so much everyone and please do check out our Fundraising webpage and share with anyone you know who is keen to fundraise for the Animals at the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center!

Love from
